Kauffman Outfitters

The premier, high-success hunting alternative in New Mexico

More About Kauffman Outfitters

We encourage two way communication with our clients from their very first contact with us until they depart for home after the harvest.  We handle as much of the administration detail as possible via email.   We request emergency contact information, dietary preferences and other pertinent information prior to your arrival.  We will purchase and forward to you the appropriate habitat stamp.

We are a relatively small team with a long history of activity together.  Dennis and Cecil have hunted together since 1974,  with Kelly Chaplin since 1976,  with Chris Haas (Cecil’s only son) since 1978, with Mary Kauffman since 1994,  with Clarke Vaughan since 1988, with Randy Herrin since 1982, and with our final 4 new guides (two of which are or were game wardens) for the last few years.  You will find all of our people are registered as guides with the state.  As you can tell, you’re not going to see any guides in our camp that have to cut class from high school to guide you.

Our video policy:  We have a good deal of experience with video from our past hunts.  When conditions seem appropriate we even shoot video ourselves. Having a video of your hunt is a very attractive idea, but it increases our work and reduces your chances for success. We charge separately for each day a cameraman accompanies the hunter into the field. Our business depends upon our reputation for success. Getting you an animal is a high priority for us, getting it on video is very low on the list.  If those two weigh equally with you, we may not be your outfitter of choice.

Stories about our hunts have been carried in these magazines: Outdoor Life, Huntin’ Fool, Grand Slam Club/Ovis, Bow & Arrow Hunting, Eastman’s, and Muzzle Blasts.

We’ve been actively involved with the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish as hunter safety instructors, members of habitat stamp committees and landowner relations committees, participants in wildlife studies and workers on habitat improvement projects since 1973.

We (Dennis and Cecil) are life members of Safari Club International and the National Rifle Association.  One or the other of us has memberships in Grand Slam Club/Ovis, Carter’s Hunter Services, New Mexico Wildlife Federation, United New Mexico Bowhunters, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited.
